Stonebridge Helios Takes Gold
Congratulations to Sunshine Beach son Stonebridge Helios who captured the second Ontario Sires Stakes Gold division for three-year-old pacing colts on August 7th at Georgian Downs.
With Doug McNair in the bike for trainer and father Gregg, Helios was impressive from start to finish. Sent off at 1-9 from post four, he settled off the 26.4 first quarter and made a powerful first up move as the field passed the grandstand for the first time, going from fourth to the front, and leading the rest of the way to win by two lengths.
His final time of 1:49.4 is only three-tenths of a second off his career mark of 1:49.1 set his last time out.
“He seems to be getting stronger every start,” said Gregg. “He went a nice mile last week at Mohawk, and tonight was a big trip, doing quite a bit of the work, and leading them through the half in 54. It was a good mile for him.”
He now has $491,000 in earnings for owners John Fleischman and Angie Stiller.
“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like him. He’s a nice horse and he has a lot of go,” said Gregg. “He’s a nice horse to be around, and he was nice when we got him, and he is still a nice horse.”
