REGAL WINS NORTH AMERICAN CUP ELIMINATION IN 1:49.4
The fastest elim went
to the Bob McIntosh-trained and co-owned Stonebridge Regal,
who zipped his mile in 1:49.4, as the even money choice took
control after the first quarter. With Jack Moiseyev driving,
Stonebridge Regal has been heavily campaigned this year, but
has held up well, as the elim was his ninth victory in 12
starts in 2005 after being unraced as a two-year-old.
At the wire, Stonebridge
Regal was three and a half lengths in front of a closing Cams
Fool, with American Ideal third. He had been challenged by
P Forty Seven down the backside, but wouldn't let him by and
eventually put the Burlington division winner away.
Stonebridge Regal had
been off since a disappointing sixth place finish as the 4-5
choice in the Provincial Cup at Windsor, May 29. McIntosh
chose to give him a week off before his Cup elim.
"It was kind of a no
brainer," said McIntosh, who also has I Zee in the Cup final
after his second place finish to Runover Feeling. "He'd been
racing tough. He came out of the Windsor race and we were
all a little mystified. I just don't think he liked the racetrack,
to tell the truth. It was very slippery. He wasn't getting
a hold of it, he wasn't himself so I decided to take the cautious
route and give him a week off. Trained him up big for this
one."
"I'll admit I was nervous
tonight, since I hoped to see the real 'Regal' back. And here
he is. (Driver) Jack (Moiseyev) doesn't tell me how to train
and I don't tell him how to drive. Stonebridge Regal likes
the dog fights. If you want to go toe-to-toe, he'll go toe-to-toe
with you."

Regal Lowers Youthful Record |
| Apr 15 |
Stonebridge
Regal showed that he was the real thing
this evening, capturing the $60,600 Youthful Pacing Series
final at Woodbine in a stake record 1:51.1.
“I tell you these
colts; if anybody tells you before hand they know how
good they are, they're lying,” said a trainer Bob McIntosh
in a winner's circle interview. “Because until you get
out there, and get down to the half in :54 in a race
like that, you don't know how good they are.”
Driver Jack Moiseyev
fired the three-year-old out quickly in the opening
quarter of :25.3, establishing a half-length lead. But
instead of waiting for cover, the winner of two-in-a-row
marched on and expanded his lead through out the mile.
“That separates
the men from the boys. A lot of good ones can go fast
for a piece, but the great ones can carry their speed,”
said the trainer. “He reminds me a lot of his sire Artsplace
in a lot of ways. He is not a magnificent trainer, but
when push comes to shove he is very, very competitive.”
Having to make
the choice of which stablemate to drive, Moiseyev choose
wisely with the winner. “They are both real nice colts
and I had a tough time choosing. I just liked this one.
He could carry his speed a little more, and he's a little
faster, so I though I would take a shot on him.”
Moiseyev gave
the winner of five races lifetime a respectable front
end steer, and was pleasantly surprised by the lifetime
best performance. “He felt pretty comfortable; he was
kind of taking a rest to tell you the truth. He was
plugging along, had his ears up, and when I asked him
a little bit, he exploded.”
When asked if
there was anything left in the tank, the pilot smirked
and said, “I think there was a little left. I wasn't
asking him much.”
Next on the agenda
for the Robert Kauffman, Angie Stiller, Robert McIntosh
and Springtime Racing Stable owned colt will be the
Diplomat Series (formerly know as the Mohawk Pacing
Series). The trainer however is not getting ahead of
himself with the winner, saying he is just going to
take things one week at a time. |

Artbritration finished in a dead heat for fourth.
The victory improved Stonebridge Kisses record

Strong Close For Forest City
October 18, 2004
After two feverish
days of selling, the curtain fell on the annual Forest City
Yearling Sale this afternoon in London, Ontario.
In total, 314 yearlings
passed through the sales ring, garnering total bids of $7,150,700.
Topping this afternoon's
second session, and indeed the sale as a whole, was Stonebridge
Prima, a Camluck full-sister to Stonebridge First and last
year's Confederation Cup champ Stonebridge Premio. The regally
bred youngster earned a bid of $110,000 from trainer Nat Varty.
On the trotting side
of the ledger Stonebridge Lure, a Yankee Paco half-sister
to trotting sensation Peaceful Way brought the highest bid
during the opening session, going to trainer Gregg McNair
for $90,000.
Stonebridge Farm of
Arva, Ontario raised and sold the sale's highest priced pacing

| Oct 16 |
Three weeks off didn't seem to bother Peaceful
Way who was an impressive winner in one of two Breeders
Crown eliminations for three-year-old trotting fillies
tonight at Woodbine.
Sent postward
as the 2-5 choice with Chris Christoforou driving, Peaceful
Way came from sixth at the top of the lane, swallowed
up the leaders approaching the wire and scored by one
and one-half lengths in 1:55.2. It was the Angus Hall-Royal
Bait filly's first start since winning the SBOA final
on September 24. Mystical Sunshine (Yankee Glide) finished
second with In The Shell (Muscles Yankee) third. Silver
Springs and Invincible Dream also earned spots in the
Final from this elim.
Trained and co-owned
by Dave Tingley of Guelph, breeder Angie Stiller of
Arva, Ontario and the Goin My Way Stable, Pa., Peaceful
Way was winning her eighth race in 11 starts this year,
with career earnings now over $1,450,000.
"I think that
helped her with the trip she got," said Christoforou,
of the layoff and the off-the-pace win. "She's so versatile.
There was a decent bunch of fillies in there. We got
one or two that maybe got in the way a little bit. But
she's the kind of filly that can overcome those things
and she proved it again tonight. She was ready to go
around the last turn but I didn't want to come too early
with her. I knew she'd have to make a pretty good brush
down the lane to get all the way to the front. So I
waited as long as I could with her. Probably, about
three-quarters of the way around the turn she said,
'it's time to go', so I let her go then."
While the New
York Yankees try to win the American League pennant
next week, Housethatruthbuilt will be looking to claim
her own championship in the $625,000 Crown final.
The robust Muscles
Yankee offspring resembled a cleanup hitter in the other
elim, blasting to the front after a half in :58.2, then
floating home to win by two and one-quarter lengths
in 1:55.2.
With Brian Sears
at the controls, Housethatruthbuilt settled in behind
the pacesetters Zorgwijk Emani and Bramasole, before
blowing by the leaders approaching the three-quarters
and winning in hand, her sixth win in a row and 10th
in 14 outings this year, as she pushed her career earnings
to over $753,000. Bramasole (Muscles Yankee) came back
on for second while Blossom Seelster (Tagliabue) finished
third. McCall Magic and Olympics both advanced to the
Final from this elim as well.
"There are a
couple of other nice fillies in there (the division)
but she's really on top of her game right now and doing
everything we've asked," said Sears, of the prohibitive
2-5 favourite. "When I moved my mare back to the front,
she was really handy, really good and very comfortable
(finishing up)."
Trond Smedshammer

Peaceful Way in Elim win -
The two most dominant Ontario sired three year-old fillies
of 2004 put on matching displays in their respective finals
of the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Stakes on Friday
night (September 24).
First it was Peaceful Way's turn in the $205,825 Filly Trot
and she was later followed to the winner's circle by Invitro
in the $268,550 Filly Pace.
Fresh from her track record 1:54.4 mile of a week ago, Peaceful
Way was placed into the four-hole off the starting gate by
driver Chris Christoforou as Miss Michelle H rushed to the
top.
Christoforou allowed the early action to settle, then had
the Angus Hall miss on the move and quickly made the front
as the half flashed up in :57.3.
As she had done the previous time out, Peaceful Way began
to separate herself from the field and pulled away in the
stretch to another convincing victory, equalling her own track
mark of 1:54.4.
McCall Magic, fifth and parked at the three-quarters, closed
the most to finish second, 4 ½ lengths back, with Summerhill
Hallie third.
Trained by co-owner Dave Tingley for partners Goin My Way
Stable and Angie Stiller, Peaceful Way won for the seventh
time in 10 starts this year to boost her earnings past $440,000.
For her career, the 15-time winner surpassed $1.4 million.
As the near unanimous 1-9 choice, Peaceful Way returned a
mere $2.20.

Peaceful Way had it all her own way in
tonight's $205,825 SBOA Final for three-year-old trotting
fillies as she established a new stakes record and tied
her own track standard at Mohawk.
Miss Michelle
H had command early for Rod Allen and clicked off an
opening quarter of :28.1. Just past that marker Chris
Christoforou tipped Peaceful Way out from fourth and
the filly put blew by her rivals to easily take over
and lead through the middle fractions of :57.3 and 1:27.
As they turned for home she simply pulled away from
the rest of the field, drawing off to win by open lengths
in 1:54.4 with no urging from her driver. The time equaled
the track record she established in the eliminations
last week and established a new record for the SBOA
Final.
McCall Magic
was the only filly remotely close to Peaceful Way in
the stretch. Parked from just before the half with cover,
the Angus Hall filly closed well through the stretch
for Steve Condren to finish second, more than four lengths
back. Summerhill Hallie (Angus Hall) closed from seventh
at the three-quarters to take third for Paul MacDonell.
For Peaceful
Way the victory was her seventh victory in 10 starts
this year and upped her seasonal earnings over $440,000.
She is owned by her trainer, Dave Tingley, Guelph and
breeder Angie Stiller, Arva, Ontario along with the
Goin My Way Stable, Pa.
The Angus Hall-Royal
Bait miss, Canada's Two Year Old Trotting Filly of the
Year last season, now has $1.4 million banked lifetime.

Enjoying The Peaceful Way Ride |
| Aug 30 |
Millionaire trotter Peaceful Way
will make her first appearance in an OSS Gold Final
this year when the three-year-old trotting fillies
are featured in the $130,000 Final at Rideau Carleton
Raceway on Thursday night.
Last year's
O'Brien Award winner captured her elim last week
in a track record 1:56 and her connections admit
it hasn't been the easiest year for the Angus
Hall miss.
“Unfortunately
she wasn't ready early. She had some problems
hitting her knees and Dave (Tingley) had to make
some changes with her shoeing,” explains co-owner
Joe Myers. “Then it was just one thing after another.
She got a little sick and we had the stakes engagements
in New Jersey.”
During
her month-long sojourn at The Meadowlands Peaceful
Way delivered three outstanding performances before
running into another bout with sickness in the
Hambletonian Oaks Final. She began her states-side
campaign with an impressive 1:53.3 effort in the
July 9 Delvin Miller Memorial eliminations and
came back in the $325,000 Final one week later
and clocked an eye-popping 1:52.3 mile, just two-fifths
of a second shy of Continentalvictory's world
record.
In the
July 31 Hambletonian Oaks elimination Peaceful
Way posted the 1:54.2 victory by a head, a minuscule
margin compared to the six and half lengths she
had on the field in the Miller Final, then faltered
in the August 7 Final, making a break and being
placed back to tenth.
However,
the filly proved she was back on track in last
week's elimination round when her 1:56 victory
took one-fifth of a second off the Rideau Carleton
track record Miss Michelle H had set three races
earlier and equalled the Ontario Sires Stakes
record set by Pepi Lavec at Hiawatha Horse Park
in 2002.
“The Hambletonian
Oaks was another occasion of untimely sickness,”
says Holland, PA resident Myers. “It was a little
too hot for our Canadian girl. She's used to cooler
temperatures and the heat kind of got to her.
And there was some sickness in the barn.”
Myers shares
ownership on the winner of $1.22 million with
his wife Barbara, trainer Dave Tingley of Guelph
and breeder Angie Stiller of Arva, but it was
Myers who made the decision to purchase the filly
out of the 2002 Forest City Yearling Sale for
$30,000.
“What makes
it more amazing is that we had just come off a
bad year in the business the year before and I
promised my wife I would not take any unnecessary
chances so I decided to buy just one yearling
that year,” recalls Myers.
“I did
a lot of studying the spring before and I decided
to buy this filly. We took the 700 mile trip up
to Canada to look at her and when they brought
her out of the stall I thought, ‘Oh my God, she's
so small.' I almost walked away, but I lost a
good one a couple of years before that because
I convinced myself the filly was too small, and
so based on that I wasn't walking away from this
one.
“She's
really pretty petite. People have said to me,
‘It's just amazing how she can generate so much
speed from such a compact body,'” adds Myers.
“But I think Dave said it best. She's just the
type of horse if you set a bunch of horses loose
in front of her one of two things would happen;
she would go until she passed them or she'd pass
out trying to pass them.”
Peaceful
Way and driver Chris Christoforou will be hoping
to achieve the former when they line up from post
two in Thursday's seventh race. Unable to make
it to Rideau Carleton Raceway for the 6:30 pm
program, the Myers' will be waiting by the phone
for Tingley to call with the results and, whether
the filly captures her first $130,000 Gold Final
of the season or has to wait until next time,
her owners will be enjoying the ride.
“She's
been a fantastic filly. How often does a filly
like her come along?” asks the retiree, who has
been fending off buyers for two years. “If I was
one of the big guys and had one of these coming
along every year I might have sold her, but how
often do you get to enjoy moments like this?”
Thursday's
field is as follows:
1. Incredible
Iam (Incredible Abe) – Phil Hudon
2. Peaceful Way (Angus Hall) – Chris Christoforou
3. Silhouette Dream (Fill V) – Steve Condren
4. Fiesty Kindof Luv (Fiesty GG) – Trevor Henry

Rideau Carleton's track record for three-year-old
trotting fillies fell in both $49,681 Ontario Sires Stakes
Gold eliminations tonight as each race was faster than
the previous standard of 1:56.3 set in 1997 by former
OSS star Elegantimage.
Miss Michelle
H opened the speedfest with a wire-to-wire 1:56.1 score
in the third race. Competing for Joann and Joe Thomson
of Chesapeake City, MA, and Carl and Rod Allen Stable
Inc., Fla., the King Conch daughter rolled through fractions
of :28.3, :57.3 and 1:26.2 on her way to the three-quarter
length victory over a hard charging Silhouette Dream
(Fill V).
Local filly Ifhallscouldtalk
(Angus Hall), owned by Melvin Hartman of Ottawa, rounded
out the top three and Fiesty Kindof Luv nailed down
a spot in next week's final with her fourth place effort.
The win was Miss
Michelle H's third in Gold elimination action and her
sixth in 11 starts this season. Trained and driven by
Rod Allen, she currently sits second in the division's
point race with her berth in the November 13 Super Final
wrapped up with three races remaining on the regular
season schedule.
A consistent
player on the Sires Stakes scene as a two-year-old,
Miss Michelle H has added $219,435 to her bank tally
this season for a grand total of $344,255.
Three races later
last season's superstar Peaceful Way peeled one-fifth
of a second off Miss Michelle H's time to equal the
Ontario Sires Stakes speed record for three-year-old
trotting fillies over a five-eighths mile track.
Reunited with
Chris Christoforou, Peaceful Way eased off the gate
into third through the early going, content to watch
Trophy Hall clock the :28.1 opening fraction. Heading
for the :58.3 half Christoforou sent the Angus Hall-Royal
Bait daughter after the leaders and was one and a half
lengths on top by the 1:26.4 three-quarters. Through
the stretch Peaceful Way her lead to three and one-quarter
lengths to hit the wire in 1:56.
Trophy Hall (Angus
Hall) stayed game for second, Incredible Iam (Incredible
Abe) trotted into third and reigning Gold Final champion
McCall Magic was fourth.
Dave Tingley
trains Peaceful Way for his partners Goin My Way Stable
of Holland, PA and the filly's breeder Angie Stiller
of Arva, Ont. The win was Peaceful Way's fourth in six
starts this year and boosted her already significant
earnings to $1,220,112 lifetime.
Last year's OSS
Super Final Champion, this was Peaceful Way's first
foray into the provincial program this year.
The top four
finishers from each elimination will return to Rideau
Carleton Raceway next Thursday, September 2 for the
second last $130,000 Gold Final of their careers. Joining
them will be one of the fifth place finishers, Stacelita
or Shez Mine, selected by random draw.

August 23, 2004... Dave Tingley has put the nightmare
of the Hambletonian Oaks behind him and instead
is focused on the upcoming two months with his millionaire
trotting filly Peaceful Way.
The three year-old daughter of Angus Hall-Royal
Bait had her trainer scratching his head after she
came up sick in the $500,000 US classic on August
7 at the Meadowlands, but Tingley thinks the respiration
infection that plagued her is finally out of her
system. “We’ve
been treating her since she got back home and we
scoped her on Friday and she seemed fine,â€
said Tingley. “Soundness-wise, she’s
fine, but it’s always a concern when
it’s respiratory. “In
the Oaks elim (which she won in 1:54.2) she raced
flat and we thought she tied up because of the heat.
I’d like to have been able to pinpoint
it. We took a blood and it came back fine. She seemed
fine all week, but in the final, she tried to go,
but couldn’t.â€
Peaceful Way, who’s owned by Tingley,
Goin My Way Stable and breeder Angie Stiller, made
a break in stride while on the lead as the 3-5 favourite
in the stretch and ended up seventh, but was later
placed tenth. Still, she will enter Thursday’s
Ontario Sires Stakes Gold elimination at Rideau
Carleton with three wins in five starts this year.
The highlight of her season so far was a breath-taking
1:52.3 mile in the Delvin Miller Memorial on July
16. “She hasn’t
raced in the O.S.S. this year yet, so we’re
off to Ottawa,†said Tingley.
“It’s a busy schedule
coming up. She has the Simcoe and (S.B.O.A.) and
if she makes the final of everything, she’ll
race five weeks in a row. Then, the Breeders Crown
after that.â€
In addition to keeping a watchful eye on Peaceful
Way, the Guelph resident is also pleased with the
progress being made by a pair of Angus Hall two
year-old fillies. One of them, What Idid For Love,
won her lifetime debut in a division of the Robert
Stewart Stakes at Woodbine last Thursday.

$500,000 Hambletonian Oaks for three-year-old trotting fillies
on Saturday at The Meadowlands. Biding her time with driver
John Campbell, in fourth place, the early fractions of :27.4

the half. By the 1:25.2 three quarters, Peaceful Way was on
the move to second behind Three Little Words.

Peaceful Way trotted a career-best 1:52.3 to qualify for next
Saturday's $500,000 Hambletonian Oaks Final.
Campbell moved the daughter of Angus Hall in to the lead by
the head of the stretch, and she held that lead down the stretch
to win in 1:54.2 by a head over Ivy Swinger (S. Bouchard)
and Housethatruthbuilt (Brian Sears). The other Hambletonian
Oaks qualifiers were Silver Springs (David Miller) and Ladylind
(Cat Manzi).
Peaceful Way is co-owned by trainer Dave Tingley, Angie Stiller
and the Going My Way Stable. "I was not really concerned
with being first over. John said she was not aggressive or
up on the bit as she normally is. I don;t know if it's the
heat or she caught a bug. There is one going around so it's
a concern. It's been 15 days since the Del Miller so this
will tighten her up for next week. Her blood work will be
back Monday but she was aggressive warming up. She's just
never raced in heat like this."

Way & Mystical Sunshine Win Oaks Elims |
July 31
The Angus Hall daughter Peaceful Way had to earn her victory in the first of two $25,000 eliminations of the Hambletonian Oaks on a very hot and humid but windy day today at the Meadowlands.
John Campbell
took his time with the precocious filly off the gate
and settled her into fourth in the early going as Ivy
Swinger cut the opening quarter in :27.4. Ray Paver
Jr. had Three Little Words out and driving and they
took over command by the :55.3 half.
Just before the
half, Campbell tipped Peaceful Way off the wood and
she was wheel to wheel with Three Little Words by the
1:25.3 three-quarters. Peaceful Way seemed to have the
race in hand by mid stretch, but two late challenges,
one on the outside from Housethatruthbuilt and one up
the rail from Ivy Swinger, came hard but Peaceful Way
hung tough to poke her nose in front at the wire reached
in 1:54.2.
Ivy Swinger (Malabar
Man) was a just a head behind in second for Stephane
Bouchard with Housethatruthbuilt (Muscles Yankee) a
neck in arrears in third. Silver Springs and Ladylind
also qualified for the final from this elim.
It was the third
straight win for Peaceful Way, Canada's Two Year Old
Trotting Filly of the Year last season. The winner of
well over a million in earnings from 14 lifetime starts
is owned by her trainer Dave Tingley of Guelph, Ont.,
breeder Angie Stiller of Arva, Ont., and Joe Myers'
Goin My Way Stable, Pa.
The second division
saw Mike Lachance send Mystical Sunshine to the top
by the :28.1 opener and trot through middle splits of
:56.3 and 1:24.4, repel a challenge from Self Indulgent,
to win in a new life best of 1:53.2 with minimal urging.
Have you Ever (Yankee Glide) and Ron Pierce was her
only challenger in the late going and she finished a
game second for David Miller.
Tag A Victory
(Tagliabue) was third. Self Indulgent (Self Possessed)
and Funny Malentine (Malabar Man – driven by Trevor
Ritchie) also qualified for the final.
It was the fifth
win in 10 starts this year for Mystical Sunshine who
won the Elegantimage Final at Woodbine in June. Chris
Ryder trains the daughter of Yankee Glide-Aura Of Glory
for Alvin Jacobson, N.Y. and Sidney Korn, N.J.
“This was the
second time today I've driven her,” said Lachance. “She
was much better gaited today and much calmer. When I
scored her down she didn't tighten the lines but she
felt good. When she raced, she was better than ever.”
“We bought her
last year from Harrisburg in November,” explained Ryder.
“I haven't done a lot with her. She matured well over
the winter and she doesn't have any problems and feels
good. She seems to be a little better if she has a break
and then two or three races rather than week to week.
That's the situation she's in now. I've been messing
around with her shoes a little bit, I think I may have
finally got it right.
“I was disappointed
with her last week. She sat in the two hole and lost
ground in the stretch to Peaceful Way, which is no shame,
but I think she's back like I suspected she'd be today.”
The top five
fillies from each elimination advance to next Saturday's
$500,000 Oaks Final. They are (alphabetically): Funny
Malentine, Have You Ever, Housethatruthbuilt, Ivy Swinger,
Ladylind, Mystical Sunshine, Peaceful Way, Self Indulgent,
Silver Springs and Tag A Victory. |

Hambletonian
for Peaceful Way
Thursday, July 22, 2004 - by Dean Hoffman |

| Maybe
later in the year, but not in the Hambletonian.
Owner
Joe Myers announced today that the fastest 3-year-old
trotter of the season will race in the Hambletonian
Oaks and not in the open division against colts. It's
a decision that he and his partners, including trainer
Dave Tingley, reached after lengthy discussions. They
know all too well that a horse gets only one chance
at the Hambletonian.
“We
made our decision for the good of the horse,” said Myers.
“It might be a little too early in her season to ask
her to race colts, but this doesn't mean we've ruled
out racing her against colts later in the year, maybe
at Lexington.”
The
choice facing the Peaceful Way camp was one that many
people in the world of trotting were pondering in the
past week. Should she go for glory in the Hambletonian
or opt for the prudent route of starting against fillies
in the Hambletonian Oaks?
“Believe
me, one of the goals I set for myself in harness racing
was winning the Hambletonian ,” says Myers, “but we'll
be honored if she races well in the Hambletonian Oaks.”
Her
owners felt that Peaceful Way could certainly be competitive
and perhaps even win the Hambletonian, but they also
knew that tossing a filly---even one as good as Peaceful
Way---into a lion's den of colts involves risk. For
now, they have decided to pass. |

Decision due on where to race Peaceful Way
Wednesday, July 21, 2004 - from the Meadowlands Publicity
Department
East Rutherford, NJ --- It is decision time this week for
the connections of Peaceful Way, who will consider the option
of entering her in the $500,000 Hambletonian Oaks for 3-year-old
trotting fillies or pursue a possible once in a lifetime trip
to the $1 million Hambletonian against colts. Both races will
be contested on August 7 at the Meadowlands.
After the filly won the $325,000 Delvin Miller Memorial Final
last Friday night by six and one-half lengths in a stakes
record 1:523, trainer and co-owner David Tingley indicated
she would be pointed toward the Oaks -- in which she is likely
to be the overwhelming favorite.
But now there may be a change in plans.
“It’s being considered,” said Tingley from
Showplace Farms in Englishtown, N.J., this past Monday morning.
“It’s Mr. Myers (co-owner Joseph Myers of the
Goin My Way Stable) dream to win the Hambletonian. I’m
going to talk with John (driver John Campbell) a little more.
We’ll take it easy with her this week, and we’ll
see how she is at the end of the week before making our decision.”
Eliminations for both the Hambletonian and the Oaks will be
raced on July 31 at the Meadowlands.
The Ontario-bred Peaceful Way, from the first crop of Angus
Hall, won Canada’s O’Brien Award as that country’s
top 2-year-old trotting filly last year after she had posted
eight wins in 10 starts and earned $733,726. In 2004, she
has won an Miller Elimination and the final, which gave her
two wins in three starts and 3-year-old earnings of $175,000
for Tingley, Goin My Way Stables, and breeder Angie Stiller.
As impressive as Peaceful Way was in winning the Miller Final
in a stakes record, which was only two-fifths of a second
off of a world record, Tingley feels she was not at the top
of her game.
“She was probably about 80 percent last week,”
Tingley said. “She hadn’t been eating. I’d
say she might have had one full tub of feed all week. We found
some problems with her stomach. The vet said it was about
a one on a one-to-three scale, with three being the worst.
As soon as we started treating her, she got right back into
the feed tub and is feeling great.
“When you take a hold of her, she tends to climb a little
in front gait-wise,” said Tingley. “If she gets
challenged, she’ll fight and has a lot more speed in
her. To go in the Hambletonian, we’d have to about think
whether we could win.”
There have been 13 fillies who have won the Hambletonian since
1926 but only two, Duenna in 1983 and Continentalvictory in
1996, since the Hambletonian Oaks was first raced, in 1971.

Peaceful Way turned in an
awesome 1:52.3 effort to capture the $325,000 Delvin Miller Memorial
at the Meadowlands Friday night. The time is a stakes record and
was also just two-fifths of a second off the world record.
The filly was settled third in the rail in the first turn and then
took control of the race just past the first quarter and was never
threatened from that point on.
"I just didn't want to get her stirred up," said driver John Campbell
of his strategy to settle the filly at the inside in the first turn.
Dave Tingley trains Peaceful Way, a 3-year-old daughter of Angus
Hall. Last fall she spoiled her Meadowlands debut by breaking stride
in an elimination in the Breeders Crown, but Tingley said those
days are behind her.

Way Overpowers Field In Miller Final |
| |
July 16
Peaceful Way absolutely dominated in tonight's
$325,000 Delvin Miller Memorial Final as she trotted off to
a stakes record of 1:52.3. The time was just two ticks shy of
the World Record set by Continentalvictory in 1996.
Leaving from the rail
with John Campbell aboard, Peaceful Way sat second behind
the early leader Have You Ever who was passed by the :28.2
opening quarter by Mystical Sunshine.
Campbell then sent
his charge to take command and the race was over as Peaceful
Way stepped off fractions of :56.2 and 1:24.2 and trotted
away in the stretch to win by open lengths. Aside from a couple
of taps mid stretch, Campbell gave Peaceful Way minimal urging
in the record mile. The 1:52.3 time smashed the stakes record
of 1:54.2 set by Syrinx Hanover in 2001 and tied by Cameron
Hall a year later.
Housethatruthbuilt
(Muscles Yankee) survived a parked out trip to take second
for Brian Sears with Mystical Sunshine (Yankee Glide) in third
for Mike Lachance.
It was the second win
in three starts this year for the daughter of Angus Hall who
went over the $1 million mark in life earnings with her Miller
elim victory last week. Canada's Two Year Old Trotting Filly
of the Year last season is owned by her trainer Dave Tingley
of Guelph, Ont., her breeder Angie Stiller of Arva, Ont.,
and the Goin My Way Stable, Pa.
“I watched her last
year, and she'd hitch and hike through the turns,” said John
Campbell of the care he took with Peaceful Way through the
first turn. “If she can handle it, I will. I didn't want to
get her stirred up and get her around the first turn okay.
I felt she'd do the rest.
“She was just trotting
off on her own [the second half]. She never seems to get tired,
she's among the top few in ability. If she stays healthy,
she'll compare favourably to the best fillies I've raced.”
“She's as just as good
as ever,” said trainer and co-owner Dave Tingley. “She has
about the same attitude. She loves to race; she doesn't much
like to train. When she gets behind the gate she knows what
she has to do.”
As good as she is,
Tingley does not plan to try her against the colts in the
Hambletonian.
“I think we'll race
against the girls and hope to have some luck in the Hambletonian
Oaks,” he said. The eliminations for the Hambletonian Oaks
are on July 31 at the Meadowlands with the $500,000 final
on August 7.

PEACEFUL
WAY FAVOURED IN MILLER FINAL
Posted by Jeremy Rangiawha 08:09 AM 16-Jul-2004 NZST
Giant talent tends to make diva attitudes acceptable even
with trotting fillies
Despite a disinterest in training and a cranky personality, Peaceful
Way, a 3-Year-Old daughter of Angus Hall, has won nine of 12 career
starts and $746,226 in earnings. She is the 2-1 morning line favourite
in Friday night's (July 16) $325,000 Delvin Miller Memorial Final
at the Meadowlands.
The Miller, carded as the fifth race, shares the Friday night spotlight
with the $382,000 Stanley Dancer Trot in which Cantab Hall seeks
his 13th straight victory.
Peaceful Way, making only her second start of the year, won her
Miller elimination last week in 1.53.3, trotting a last quarter
in 27.2 seconds for a five length margin of victory.
"I was more than pleased with her elimination mile last week,"
said her trainer, 38-year-old Nova Scotia native David Tingley.
"I expected her to be good, but not that good. John (driver
John Campbell) now knows her idiosyncrasies, and, hopefully, she's
at least 90 percent. Last week, I told him she might be a little
bit short. She's a filly that hates to train. She didn't train much
at two and doesn't like to train by herself."
It has been easy to forgive her less than peaceful ways as she strung
together eight straight victories from September through early November
of 2003.
"I didn't know what I had at first," said Tingley. "She
was a bit cranky and erratic. Around June (of 2003) she started
to turn it around, and by the beginning of July we knew we had something.
I actually had her ready and qualified near the end of August. She
was phenomenal as a 2-Year-Old."
Peaceful Way would win Canada's top award, the O'Brien, as the leading
2-Year-Old filly trotter of 2003. All but one of her 10 starts at
two were in Canada, including her two length tally in the $622,610
Goldsmith Maid on October 18 at Mohawk. She overcame post 10, an
off-track and a first over trip to win in 1.57.3.
The filly travelled to the Meadowlands for the Breeders Crown last
fall but broke stride in her $25,000 elimination race on November
21 and failed to qualify for the final. That snapped her winning
streak at eight.
"There was a bump in the road," Tingley acknowledged.
"She had a guttural pouch infection, and she had a high white
blood count a week before the Breeders Crown. We treated her with
antibiotics, but she didn't get any better. So, we had to flush
her out three days before the elimination, and I don't think she
was 100 percent."
Her 2004 campaign got off to a slow start with shoeing problems
at the top of the list.
"We definitely had high hopes for her this year," said
Tingley. "She has unbelievable raw speed and determination.
I had her shoes turned around (backwards), and I experimented with
different shoes, hoping I wouldn't have to use those nine-sixteenths
backwards. It changes her action and stops her from interfering.
It's good on firm tracks, but on loose tracks she can slip. I actually
trained her on flip flops, and she didn't train bad until I got
to about 2.04, then she starting hitting herself again. She qualified
in 1.58.2 (May 28), and we still had some work to do after she broke
in her first start back (June 4). So, we just took some time to
get her shoeing adjusted. I give credit to my blacksmith for getting
her back on track. The sick scratch (July 2) was a minor tie up,
nothing major."
Tingley, who is based in Guelph, Ontario, co-owns the filly with
the Goin My Way Stable of Holland, Pennsylvania; the Let It Ride
Stables of Delray Beach, Florida and breeder Angie Stiller of Arva,
Ontario.
"The co-owner (Joseph Myers) of Goin My Way Stable was living
in Pennsylvania at the time and drove all the way up here for the
(Forest City) sale," recalled Tingley, who also trains the
Free-For-All trotter and Breeders Crown hopeful War Paint. "Everybody
has their little systems. He's into breeding, and he said this was
the perfect cross. He loves the family. He's owns Fishing Clinic,
who is a half sister to Royal Bait (the dam of Peaceful Way). I'm
sure he would've paid more. She stood perfectly correct, but she
was just small and that was the only knock on her. That's why she
only went for $30,000."

Tingley Pleased With Peaceful Way
The only time harness racing fans in the U.S.
got a first-hand look at champion filly trotter Peaceful Way
last year came in November's elimination races for the Breeder's
Crown at the Meadowlands. Peaceful Way, who had won eight of
nine starts in Ontario up to that time, went off stride in her
elim and failed to qualify for the Breeder's Crown final.
Last Friday night, she returned to the Meadowlands and gave what trainer David Tingley believes is a more representative effort - blasting to the lead down the backstretch and winning her Delvin Miller Memorial Trot elimination race in 1:53.3.
The time is the fastest among three-year-old trotting fillies this year and was faster than the Miller Final record of 1:54.2. It was even more remarkable considering it was just her second start this year.
"It was a remarkable performance," Tingley said. "I was very pleased. She seems great. I haven't seen a brush up the backside like that. I've seen it from pacers, but not trotters. I hope I can keep her healthy and she continues on. Things are on the upswing."
Peaceful Way went off stride in her first race of this year on June 4 in a Casual Breeze division and was scratched sick from a start in an OSS Gold elim on July 2.
"She's had a few minor complications, but she seems to be straightened out now. She was touching this year, something she wasn't doing last year. I think that's why she made a miscue in her debut.
I took a few extra weeks to get her trotting like she was last year. I didn't want to force the issue. I wanted to rebuild her confidence. I think [last Friday] is the best she's looked and she put on an amazing performance."
Peaceful Way will be back to the Meadowlands on Friday night for the $325,000 Delvin Miller Final. The field will be drawn tomorrow with the fillies who qualified, in alphabetical order: Have You Ever, Housethatruthbuilt, In The Shell, Invincible Dream, Ivy Swinger, Mystical Sunshine, Peaceful Way, Rant N Rave, Self Indulgent and Silver Springs.

Millionaire
Peaceful Way Romps In 1:53.3
Peaceful
Way became
the sport's newest millionaire with her very impressive record-setting
1:53.3 victory in tonight's Delvin Miller Memorial eliminations
at The Meadowlands . The daughter of Angus Hall rushed to the lead
on the backstretch for John Campbell and drew off to a five-length
victory in the second of the three $25,000 elims. She
trotted the mile in 1:53.3, a season's record for three-year-old
trotting fillies and almost a second faster than the Miller Final
stakes record of 1:54.2. "This
was the first time I've driven her," John Campbell said after
the winning effort. "She's capable of better from her lines.
She's had minor problems, but she seems as if she's overcome them."
At
two, Peaceful Way won eight of 10 starts and earned $991,522 (Canadian).
Her victory tonight puts her life earnings over the $1 million mark
for her owners the Goin My Way Stable of Holland, Pennsylvania;
breeder Angie Stiller of Arva, Ontario and David Tingley, her trainer,
from Guelph, Ontario. This
was just Peaceful Way's second start of the season for Peaceful
Way, Canada's Two Year Old Trotting Filly of the Year last year,
who made a break in her 2004 debut. Silver
Springs (Yankee Glide) was second and Invincible Dream (Conway Hall)
was third by nine and a half lengths. Also
winning their Miller elims were Self Indulgent and Housethatruthbuilt.
Self
Indulgent driven by David Miller and trained by Jimmy Takter,
won by a half-length over Mystical Sunshine (Yankee Glide) in 1:54.3
in the second race, the first division. It was three and three-quarter
lengths to In The Shell (Muscles Yankee) in third. Owned by the
Perretti Racing Stable, New Jersey and Lindy Racing Stable, Connecticut,
Self Indulgent posted her third win in five starts this year. "She
seems like she's coming into top form now," Miller said of
the daughter of Self Possessed. "Hopefully she holds it and
keeps the form for the next three weeks." "She raced well,"
Campbell said of runner up Mystical Sunshine, who won the Elegantimage
Final at Woodbine in her previous start. "I
got the trip I had hoped. I wanted to follow David's filly [Miller
with Self Indulgent]. We just couldn't outkick her in the end. She
has shown she can race with the top fillies at Woodbine. I think
she will be a factor next week." In
the fifth race, the final division, Housethatruthbuilt
rallied for a two and a half length victory in 1:54.2. Have
You Ever (Yankee Glide) skimmed to pylons to edge out Rant N Rave
(Muscles Yankee) for the place position. Housethatruthbuilt,
the winner of three straight and four of five this year, was driven
to victory by Brian Sears. Trained by Trond Smedshammer, she is
owned by Patricia Spinelli and Theodore Gewertz of New York. "I
was being careful with her on the first turn," noted Sears.
"I was three deep most of the quarter. When I got to the front
at the half, I did my best to keep there." Ivy Swinger, the
fastest fourth-place finisher from the fifth race, joins the top
three from each elimination division in the $325,000 Miller Final
on Friday, July 16 at the Meadowlands.

Peaceful Way rushed to the lead on the backstretch and drew off to a five length victory in the third race, the second of three $25,000 Delvin Miller Memorial elimination races on Friday night (July 9) at the Meadowlands. She trotted the mile in 1.53.3, a season's record for 3-Year-Old trotting fillies and faster than the Miller Final stakes record of 1.54.2. "This was the first time I've driven her," John Campbell said after the winning effort. "She's capable of better from her lines. She's had minor problems, but she seems as if she's overcome them." At 2-Years-Old, Peaceful Way won eight of 10 starts and earned $733,726 for the Goin My Way Stable of Holland, Pennsylvania; Angie Stiller of Arva, Ontario and David Tingley, her trainer, from Guelph, Ontario. This was her first win in two starts this year. Silver Springs was second and Invincible Dream was third by 9 lengths. Also winning their Miller eliminations were Self Indulgent and Housethatruthbuilt. Self Indulgent, driven by David Miller and trained by Jimmy Takter, won by a length over Mystical Sunshine in 1.54.3 in the second race, the first division. It was 3 lengths to In The Shell in third. Owned by the Perretti Racing Stable of Cream Ridge, New Jersey and Lindy Racing Stable of Enfield, Connecticut, Self Indulgent posted her third win in five starts this year. "She seems like she's coming into top form now," Miller said of the daughter of Self Possessed. "Hopefully she holds it and keeps the form for the next three weeks." "She raced well," Campbell said of runner up Mystical Sunshine. "I got the trip I had hoped. I wanted to follow David's filly [Miller with Self Indulgent]. We just couldn't outkick her in the end. She has shown she can race with the top fillies at Woodbine. I think he will be a factor next week."
